Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on upgrading my basic IFR equipped '75 Warrior with a used IFR certified GPS unit. My current panel consists of 2 KX-155s, 2 VORs w/glide slope, a DME, and a prehistoric ADF.

I am planning on starting to work on my instrument rating this fall and have been researching used IFR certified GPS units to be able to fly RNAV approaches.

Cost is the main factor for me and after looking at Garmin GPS 400s, 430s, 530s, and even the 650, I just can't justify that kind of expense. Just as the standard advice for buying an aircraft is to "know your mission", I should say that my primary reason for getting the IFR GPS is due to the fact as VORs and NDBs are being phased out.

Based on all this, what unit's would you recommend?

Thanks!
