Fresh out of annual, I managed to break the plastic overhead console attempting to replace the map light bulb (though to be fair, the plastic around the vent knob in the back was already destroyed). When I screwed the cover back in the whole circle around the map light went straight back up into the wiring cavity.

I'm planning on picking up a replacement console from Plane Parts (I live nearby so I can skip the shipping), and I've already ordered some SEM paint from Amazon, so I guess I have a weekend project. Any tips for removing and replacing the console or getting it painted? The overhead vent duct that goes behind the console back to the baggage compartment seems fine, but I'm going to take it down and paint it to match at the same time. The part about getting the knob and level through both sections sounds tricky, at least based on the other posts I've seen on this topic.
