Well I want to replace some metal on my plane. Im just thinking about the future of getting a paint job. Dosent make sense to get a nice paint job and have damaged metal underneath that would make an eye sore.
The skin just outside the wingwalk and behind the fuel tank is kind of ugly. Has a stop drilled crack, several dents and a gouge that will probobly be another crack someday. The issue I see is getting access to rivet it back together. Then I saw pics of a wing with the fuel tank out, I guess the main spar has some decent sized lightening holes in it. Which would work real nice to rivet the skin back on. But this a rises another issue, with a skin off and the fuel tank out in pretty much the same area I have a feeling I need to support the fuselage and the wing somehow.
I was thinking of supporting the fuselage on the outboard most external stiffener where the seat tracks mount, and then carving a 2x4 or something to the shape of the wing which will support the wing and put it out board of were I will have the wing opened up
I will have my IA involved just want some opinions if this would work. Or is this a bad idea.
