Daddy Teaching Daughter
I was pleased with my little Tomahawk when I bought it a couple of months ago.
My mechanic just finished the first annual and no real big surprises were found.
Considering that, the annual wound up costing me about twice the amount I expected.
I helped him replace the engine rubbers ( that I had already got and paid for) and a
few other things when he asked. I would not call it an "owner assisted" annual. I
mostly stayed out of his way and didn't rush him. He used my annual as "filler" and
didn't work on my plane continuously until it was done. It stayed outside in my
tie-down spot and was worked on there.
I understand that getting an A&P/IA takes a significant amount of effort and they should
be paid for their time. However, a routine annual on a simple trainer with fixed gear and
a fixed pitch prop should not cost $1700 in my opinion.
