I thought this was a bit interesting:

My cherokee came with a KX-170B in the #2 hole. But, after a bit, I realized I could not tune in .02 MHZ intervals. It was a 360 channel radio only. After some research, I concluded that despite the faceplate indicating a KX-170B, this was a straight up KX-170.

I pulled the radio on Friday evening and was able to prove this out.

Rather interesting.

I picked up a true KX-170b on ebay from a local guy and dropped it in yesterday and it seems to work fine. I haven't flown with it yet, but I was able to hear the local ATIS on it from the hangar.

At least I can now tune all frequencies.

New one:

A mildly interesting case. The faceplate on the "new" one is in better condition too, so that is good.
