Question for those with a Tail Beacon or Sky Beacon

When inquiring the other day about a Tail Beacon, I was told that pairing a Tail Beacon with an old-school transponder like mine (Narco AT50A), it tends to burn out these old transponders in fairly short time. I don't understand all the details, but essentially it was explained like it makes the transponder do twice the work. I'd like some feedback from anyone who has such a setup like this, and what your real-world experience has been. Thanks in advance!
