I had a dead battery today and ordered a new one (second time in two weeks this has happened - battery is old). I also ordered the Piper power adapter to jump from the plug behind the wing. When starting from the power plug, hooked to a car or lithium power pack, do I start it with just the battery switch on and then turn on the alternator, or maybe both sides of the master off for starting. It doesn't say in the Dakota POH.

I would think the battery side of the master would have to be on to turn the starter even with 12V at the fuselage plug port.

I think I read about doing it this way somewhere but Aircraft Spruce's notes don't say anything about it.
