I am looking for thoughts on my latest gremlin.
I have received a few comments from various ATC facilities asking if my airplane is transmitting on more than one radio and am looking for a potential root cause. I am also pursuing this with my regular avionics guy, but am trying to cast a wide net. Here are the details from yesterday's instance when I departed from Binghamton, NY.
Com1, selected at the audio panel for transmit and receive: Binghamton Tower (119.3)
Com2, not selected at the audio panel at all: Binghamton Approach (118.6)
I was airborne within a few miles of the airport still communicating on Com1 with Tower. They informed me that I was also broadcasting on Approach. I randomly spun the knob on Com2 to a different frequency and Tower indicated that the issue stopped.
Hardware: Com1 is a GNS-430W, Com2 is a KX-170B (no transmit indicator, unfortunately), and the audio panel is a PS Engineering PMA 7000B.
There have been a couple of other isolated examples where I've gotten these kinds of comments from ATC in the last couple of years. I have had all of this equipment on board for over a decade, but everything was reconfigured in 2021 during a G5/GFC 500 install.
