I have had an issue with my #2 Comm for years and was looking to get some input to help troubleshoot before the plane is dropped for some avionics work next week. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

The plane originally had a well used KX-165 mated to an old Narco (I think) antenna. The issue was range. I could not receive transmissions unless I was VERY close to the transmitter, sometimes having to be within a few miles of an airport just to receive ATIS. On occasional radio checks with the #2 comm, my transmissions were reported as muffled.

I have since replaced the old failing KX 165 with a factory new one and just recently replaced my comm antennas with new RAMI units. The avionics center said everything bench checked OK. But the problem persists.

All that's left is the cable and perhaps the connections. Not sure what else to check.
