I took a short memorable flight with a couple pilot buddies on Friday in my Arrow.

Normal day in the life, I guess. No real traffic into a busy class Charlie KALB, a quick lunch and a little tavern off the beaten path, Dee Dee’s “good food, good people”. Turned the wrong way on Wolfe Road and found this little gem!

On the way home, I reached a new high point in my short flying experience. 1000 Tach flying hours.

I’ll rant for a moment...

Six years and four months ago (end of November 2012), I bought a Cherokee 140 before my first flight lesson. Inspired by many influences, but especially my already pilot brother, I started training. Took my PPL check ride on April 15, 2013 and passed, only four months later. After getting my feet wet, and flying nearly 270 hours in the 140 within 16 months, I bought my Arrow II.

Add on some more hours in the Arrow, all VFR to this point covering most states east of the Mississippi, at 770 total tach hours, July 3, 2017, passed my IFR checkride. Wow, what a feeling, more freedom and a new way to fly. Always thought I was a good pilot but after getting my instrument rating, things are surely different. In a good way, of course.

Now, 1000 tach hours later, I must reflect. Our freedom to fly has opened my eyes to how small our world really is. My Piper Time Machine has continued to serve me well! Mostly pleasure, but some business here and there too. I think of all the time we have been able to spend enjoying our many destinations and even the journey to get there! How else can this be possible in this day and age?

I’m looking forward to creating even more memories and sharing flying expierences with my fellow pilot buddies and friends, but for now, I’ll just sigh...and take it all in!

Dave
