I had an interesting discussion with a tech from Power Flow Systems at Sun'n'Fun. I wanted to know the availability and performance improvement I could expect from their exhaust system. I own a 180G (1972) - last one of the short cabin/wing Cherokees.
He said the did not offer a product for my plane since the performance improvement from their system would be minor in planes equipped with the crossover exhaust system (two exhaust pipes exiting the bottom of the cowl).
Planes that have a single pipe are choked off by 20 horsepower or more due to the restriction imposed by the single pipe. However the dual pipe exhaust has very little impact. He told me that with it my engine probably produces 177 of the 180 rated while the single exhaust produces less than 160. That is a significant difference.
Of course I was happy to hear that they didn't chince out on the design of my plane but it was a piece of info that I never knew before and have owned this plane for over 30 years. Anyway I thought I'd pass this info along.
