Upon reading the AFM supplement and other posts on the III, I have decided I need training on its usage. I have the III, radio coupler, and 530W, but I don't understand how the radio coupler helps if you have to spin the heading bug on course changes. Is there any documentation that explains how it should function?

I have always used the heading bug with the radio coupler on HDG. On my trip to San Antonio this weekend I tried switching to both OMNI and NAV but the a/p turned approximately 20 degrees right of DTK. If I set the heading bug to 20 degrees left of DTK, the a/p flew straight. Any idea why I would need the offset for NAV and OMNI but not in HDG.

The picture has the ON and HDG buttons pushed in on the III, radio control turned to OMNI, heading bug set to 176, DG pointing to 198, and DTK/TRK at 192.
