I checked yesterday when I got back and just rolled over 700 hours on this Plane and Engine since I bought it. I had Engine rebuilt (Signature - Cinncy) during the rehabilitation process of putting this problem child back in the air.

84 PA32R-301T Lycoming TIO540-S1AD turbocharged with an add on intercooler.

I have run this engine LOP since the break-in and always keep CHT's under 380. Engine uses about a quart every 7 hours or so, I run Phillips Multi-Vis and Camguard and change oil between 25 to 50 hours, depending on maintenance availability.

Engine maintenance so far:

IRAN mags, 5 Spark Plugs (Champions, now Tempest) 1 exhaust clamp, 1 EGT probe, 2 CHT probes and 5 air filters.

Probably need to change the vacuum pump but it is still OK and with my avionics, vacuum is a third tier backup.

The AP/IA that that does all my maintenance repeatedly warns me to NOT run LOP, he said it is a no-no on a Turbo Charged engine with dire warnings of detonation however, I think he is softening his stance with my results, my arguments are in the temperature numbers I get, no lead fouling and good compressions at annual.

LOP saves about 3+ GPH or so in fuel @ 65% power (where I run). @ 700 hours, that is 2100 gallons I have saved so far @ $ 4.50/gal = $ 9,450 fuel savings. That is 1/4 of the way to paying for the next overhaul.

I am convinced that running LOP is the way to go and so far, knock on wood, the engine agrees.
