Our club has a 1979 PA32-300. We just had it painted. On the flight home, we noticed there is almost no travel remaining for left rudder trim (only one or so knob revolutions) when the ball is centered. It may have been this way before and we didnt notice. When the paint shop re-assembled the plane, they mustve centered the rudder trim travel, and then our pilot needed to crank it all the way to the left for trimmed straight and level flight. The paint shop removed all control surfaces, including flaps, for painting.
What is the proper neutral rudder trim travel position? Should it be centered, or did Piper design it for almost all right trim authority and almost no left trim to help compensate for P factor during climb? Our local A&P has looked at everything and cant find any problems. What else could be causing this? Do we have a problem or not? Ive searched the forum and couldnt find previous threads that address these specific questions. Thanks in advance!
