Hello all! I'm new to the forum thing and the whole airplane thing for that matter. I have just purchased my very first airplane. Yesterday I purchased a fairly nicely equipped 1970 PA-28 235 with Garmin 340 audio panel, Garmin 430, Narco nav/com, Garmin 330 mode S. The guy brought it to me for my mechanic (Stillwater Aircraft Services KSWO) to do the pre-buy. It didn't really go so well. My mechanic said "OH NO! Not for that price ($55,000). There is about $11,500 worth of work that needs to be done to it." He rattled off that the left main fuel tank was weeping, the #2 cylinder exhaust valve was deformed and leaking, who ever did the overhaul last. Used pushrod tubes for a 360 not the 540 and the list goes on... I sent the owner a copy of the work that needs to be done. I shot him a really low ball offer ($30,000) to take it off his hands. He shot back $38,000. So long story short i got it for $35,000!! My mechanic said "ok i'm going to have to send you to negotiate my next airplane purchase".
Anyone have any ideas on upgrades? Some websites would be helpfull.
