I've seen a lot of different kinds of weather patterns over the years, but this one is entirely new to me (especially for April): two low-level jets — a 75kt jet from the south and a 50 kt jet from the east — converging over Ontario and colliding with unseasonably cold air.

The whole southern part of Ontario and Quebec is encased in ice as the freezing rain continues for a 2nd/3rd day (depending on where you are), with the jet from the south pouring in moisture like an open water main. I woke up to the flash and sound of electrical transformers exploding on the street next to mine, though, amazingly, we still have power on our street so far.

Forget about flying: the mayor of Ottawa is advising us not even to try walking outside.
