Suppose I have a friend who has a 1968 Cherokee D, serial number 28-49XX, and further suppose that the friend's Cherokee has a Lycoming O-360-A4M, rather than an -A3A or an -A4A, as required by Type Certificate Data Sheet No. 2A13. Although the wings show no sign of falling off, should my friend seek a field approval for this engine or should he let this sleeping dog lie?
