I took the bottom cowling off of my 1964 180C yesterday and noticed what I consider a fair amount of oil on the bottom of the engine and cowling.

I asked my A&P to take a look and he advised that I clean the engine run her for 10 min and inspect for leaks.

Attached is a photo of the leak. This was after a ground run for 10 minutes. The A&P didn't think it was a major issue. I've used 4 qts in the past 22 hrs keeping the oil level between 7-8 qts.

Other than having a messy engine and cowling everything has been running smoothly.

The mechanic checked the settings on the bolts and we are going to monitor the leak over the next couple hours.

If it continues to leak he suggested replacing the gasket.

I know engines leak but I'm not sure what is considered a nuisance vs something that needs to be addressed.

Any advice? How involved is replacing the gasket?
