Well, a bit of a tear apart again.
The Stec 40 & 60PSS are both being pulled, and an STEC 55x is being installed in the main radio stack.
To make room the Avidyne AXP340 transponder is being swapped for the Avidyne remote unit (AXP322), it will be controlled by the IFD540.
Also adding the STEC annunciator, it is required in order to get a flight director on the ASPEN.
The annunciator will live more or less where the 60PSS is now.
All the servos will be reused. Compared to the STEC 40 (lateral) + STEC 60PSS (vertical) units, the improvements with the STEC 55x are:
Decided to also trade up to a PMA450, from my beloved PM8000BT. Drawn to the IntelliAudio.
Finally, pulling the center black strip, which is still the original plastic. Changing to a black powder-coated custom aluminum overlay like the rest of the panel face, so as to allow for all new switches and dimmers. These are the new style Piper panel switches, the lettering lights up, and under the switch is a light strip that becomes visible when it gets flipped, to confirm the switch is in the ON position. Dimmers are PWM.
The MASTER and ALT switches are moved to the location of the STEC 40. I need just a bit more room, as I'm going to need a switch for the standby backup alternator, and the STBY ALT switch is added. The standby switch will be INOP, as I deferred the backup alternator and pulling the vacuum system, due to the Canadian peso valuation. ;-)
And of course, new yokes for the new trim system and all the new remote buttons.
* Orest

- Flight Director bars on the ASPEN
- annunciator indicating active autopilot modes
- Control Wheel Steering (CWS) - temporary override with a yoke button push, and then resumption of the autopilot in the new attitude
- digital specification of the commanded VS
- new STEC electric trim system, replaces the 35 yo factory trim system
- automatic electric trim (no more manual trimming req'd on leveling or in verticals)
- HDG to NAV, and HDG to GPSS automatic intercepts
- more accurate tracking and intercepts, as it uses three different "gain" levels
- contains its own GPSS module, so autopilot would still function with the ASPEN down
- it is kind of pretty
