So I find that i'm right at the magical number of 27 hours past the last oil change, and the oil is dark, was Shell 80w last winter up north.. so want to change it to 100wPlus, with a new filter, and start an oil analysis. It leaks more than it burns, going through a quart in 4 hours... mostly all on the belly of the beast.
PA-28 140 with O-360-A4A.
So the questions...
I have a Champion filter on there now, CH48110-1, but would like to change to a Tempest... what would the correct number be??. what filter cutter works good? I need to get one.
The valve cover gaskets are leaking, and need to be replaced... can I do that as part of the oil change as I really want to look at the valve rockers anyway.. I have an AI that will work with me for owner assisted work.
Washing the engine:... this thing leaks oil, and needs a good decreasing.. what is the proper material to use?... ( NOT Simple Green!) any concern with getting parts wet when washing it off??.. ( Mags and vacuum pump)
What other "stuff" should get done when the oil is changed??... Clean plugs?, other maintenance items to look at?.
and lastly, how to start getting the oil analysed??.. where to order the kit, and when to take the sample, first oil out?, mid stream?. last out?..
I have been around planes for a long time, built several experimental aircraft, ( 2 stroke engines ) and currently work building composite aircraft structures. Have built NASCAR race cars, and engines.. This is my first "Certified" airplane!.. and I would like to keep it within the lines...
