"near miss"

Today a "near miss" is reported. The jet came within 1.6 miles and 400 feet of vfr traffic. The pilot's response to the situation was to nose over so suddenly that FAs hit the ceiling.

Now, 1.6 miles may be too close from an ATC point of view, but from the pilot's point of view it is nearly a non-event.
