Yesterday was a beautiful day (finally!) and my instructor and I took advantage. We flew for about 2 hours doing IFR training. I had multiple take offs and lands, hold patterns, and approaches. The entire day was uneventful. After practice, I dropped my instructor off and shut the plane down (for the third time yesterday). We say down long enough for him to fill my logbook entry and I climbed back in. I ran through my checklist and started the plane without priming. It immediately stalled so I cranked again with a prime and it started and quit, and I started it one more time without priming and it quit. I had FORGOT to rich the mixture. I don't know how I overlooked it but I did and I learned a lesson. So anyway, I made mixture full rich and she fired right up and I taxied. On run up and mag check one mag was fine the other all of a sudden was very rough, rougher than I've ever had. So, I leaned the mixture to heat up the plugs and no improvement. I repeated a little longer run time with mixture lean and no improvement. I also feel I noticed ever so slight a sluggishness when throttling to 2000rpms. I taxied back and my plane is now at my instructors airport waiting for my mechanic. I don't know a whole lot about engines so i was wondering what your thoughts were. Did I ruin a plug? Did a magneto coincidentally go bad or did I do something worse? :-? My mechanic is supposed to work on it tomorrow. I thought I'd do my homework too.
Thank you for your input.
