On my 85 Archer my right mag drop is slowly increasing over the last 50 hours to roughly a 100-110 RPM drop now. My left mag drop is always roughly 70RPM. Both mags were inspected 150 hours ago. I know these numbers are within allowable tolerance, but I would like to understand what is causing the mag drop to increase on the right mag. My mechanic told me that the points are settling in and not to worry. Airplane seems to run fine. Before the mag inspection they both held steady at a 70-80 drop for the whole 500 hours before inspection.

If the timing was off on the right mag would that cause an RPM drop?

Thanks for helping me learn.
