Let's say, hypothetically, that a 68 Cherokee D (S/N 28-49xx) has a Lycoming rebuilt A4M installed in it, rather than an A3A or an A4A, as specified in Type Certificate Data Sheet 2A13. Will the wings fall off? More important, will the Friendly Aviation Agency dispatch black helicopters to search out and destroy the engine?
