Hey gang - I know the topic of starting a Lycoming is well-rehearsed (especially hot starts). Anyway, with increased ambient temps in Texas some of our pilots are having difficulty cold-starting our Arrow. I personally have had not had any issues, especially when limiting the amount of prime-time in the summer. Some of our pilots are having luck starting without the aux fuel pump. My question - the POH and Lycoming ops manual call out the use of the aux fuel pump for cold and hot starts... is it mechanically safe to start only with the engine driven pump? Anyone else use a no-aux-pump start procedure for similar Lycoming engines?

Thanks
