I have a 1968 PA28R-180, and I’ve been bothered by trim problem for some time.

Sitting on the ground at rest the trim wheel exhibits just a modest amount of stiffness, about the same amount that I felt flying any PA 28 in the past.

But after take off the stiffness increases steadily with speed until around 130 kt when it becomes quite stiff. It may also be a function of temperature to some extent because last summer the problem didn’t seem to be so bad here in New England.

I squawked the issue to my mechanic at the last annual last month and he replaced the, I’ll call it a spindle, in the tail cone.

I’ll add that the stiffness is more than the electric trim can overcome as well.

So even after that part was replaced, the problem is still with me.

I’d appreciate any of your ideas. Thanks
