Hello all,

I have recently become caretaker of a 1984 archer ii, and the load meter is dead. The alternator appears to function and if I shut off the field circuit with the engine running, the alt annunciator lights up.

looking through the logs, it seems that the load meter is a CONSTANT headache, backed up by frequent posts here suggesting a digital replacement.

I have one free round spot in the panel next to the tach, I could put a digital load meter there, or I could put an engine analyzer there as this plane has no CHT gauges anyway. I don't really have a clean spot for both.

My question is, would something like a used UBG16 be allowable to replace the factory load meter? I seem to remember on a mooney I used to own that we ran that way for years until an A&P noticed it was not allowed and installed a separate digital instrument like suggested here, but I really don't remember the specifics.

Thank you
