I am a big proponent of Lean of Peak (LOP) flying, and have done so successfully for many years in 8 different airplanes. I now have a normally aspirated Saratoga with IO-540 and GAMIs. I have good GAMI spreads, CHTs are all within 30F of each other, and I can run LOP down to about 14.5 GPH before any engine roughness.

Just one problem.

When I run lean of peak, I get a faint fuel smell in the cabin. My passengers smell it right away and complain. So I'm not able to run LOP due to the fuel smell. I've never had this happen in any other airplane and am scratching my head as to what the cause is, and how to fix it.
