Well, no trurer words were every spoken than the adage "fly the airplane all the way to the chocks."
Had made one touch and go at my local airport, and came around for the last time. About 5 seconds after touch down, the airplane decided it wanted to go 4 wheeling, and the next think I knew, I was in the grass areas separating the runway from the taxiway. Fortunately, there was no one else on either the taxiway, or the runway!!!
When the plane decided to go to the left, (the side with the blown tire), there was really nothing I could do except go along for the ride. Opposite rudder and braking did nothing!!
Lessons learned: Fly to the chocks, and always expect something to happen.
This was on the 4th of July, and by the time I finally had help, it was 6 hours later. Had to find a jack, a dolly, and a tow vehicle.
Anyone else have landing with a blown tire experiences?
