So I'm looking to update my old 121.5 elt
long story short I'm looking at the kannad 406 elt, I would like to add the arinc module for redundancy, turns out I already had a serial cable run to the tail of my aztec during some recent avionics work
my question is though it looks as though the arinc module is 28 volts, my aircraft is 14 volts... so does this mean its not possible to do this?
the arinc module for those that have not looked into it, provides backup gps data to the kannad 406 elt in the event the built in gps is unable to acquire a signal.
My thought is that at least the last in flight position would at be transmitted post crash to sarsat. this would greatly improve the chances of survival especially if unconcious
basically the arinc stores the gps position from the panel mounted gps, once the master is turned off or power is cut the position data is sent to the 406 elt, if the elt is triggered it tries to acquire its gps position via the onboard gps receiver, if after a few tries it can't it fires off the last stored position... very clever in my mind...
Too some it this may be redundant, however I fly with my family and if anything ever happened I want my loved ones to have the absolute best chance of survival
I feel the Kannad integra offers the most backup options of the ones on the market.
