I used VirtualBox with Windows 10 for GTN updating for the first two years. It does work, but it's very finicky about the SD card reader (it won't use the built-in at all, because it's not on the USB bus, and takes a while to recognise an external one). When I upgraded to a new laptop, I left a small Windows 10 partition installed, and that seems to do the job. It also runs the GTN trainer much faster than Win10 inside a VirtualBox, because it has more-direct access to the 3D acceleration. Very rarely, I need Windows for something else, but in general, I boot it up every 7 weeks.

Cheers, David
