The model number is on the chip and in his wiring diagram.




For just weather/traffic there's no really any tools required.  You only get into wiring/soldering if you want to add the GPS/AHRS.  Weather/traffic reception is just plugging in pre-built items and turning it on.  All you need other than buying the bits and pieces is a memory card reader to load the software with.
