heater cable disconnected

Hi All - Went up last night in the freezing cold from KPYM to KHFD, and the heat cable appears to be disconnected. I took off the cowl, and it appears that the cable is still connected to the transfer box on the firewall. My question - if the disconnect is at the slider switch in the cabin (there is no resistance), what's the best way to access it? Is this a repair I can make myself? I can't seem to get the panel plastic off that wraps around the yoke without breaking it.

Any advise would be much appreciated!
