Back in this thread https://www.piperforum.com/threads/g5-hsi-gns-430w-and-trutrak.16067/ we had a side discussion about whether an IFR GPS would continue to provide steering commands (GPSS) inside the final-approach fix of a non-RNAV approach. In the end, everyone agreed that they should, and today I made a point of going up with my (new to me) GPSS and trying it in an NDB approach without a GPS overlay (CYMW NDB A).
The first picture is just before the FAF (the YMW NDB), and it shows that the GPS is annunciating LNAV mode):
The second picture is just inside the FAF (note that the final approach course has turned magenta, and the GTN 650 is still annunciating LNAV mode and sending steering commands to my autopilot:
The GTN 650 continue to provide roll-steering commands up to the MAP, then suspended (maintaining the current heading) for the missed approach until I climbed to 3,200 ft and then unsuspended it.
