It was a beautiful day yesterday so I thought I would take 74x up for a little cruise. Preflight was good and she started right up with no problems. I taxied over to the run up area and throttled up to 2000 rpm. Mag check, suction, etc... All SAT. I throttle back and get ready to call the tower.

That's odd, the throttle is back but the engine still at 2000rpm?!?! After a few moments of fiddling it is pretty apparent that the throttle cable broke. I taxi back to the hanger and shut her down. Within 5 minutes have the throttle cable disconnected and confirmed a failure of the cable.

Now what's important about this is not that I had a failure of a vital cable or that it failed while on the ground before it could have been much much worse.
No what is important to note is that I knew the cable was binding and even had a mechanic tell me I needed to replace it. I kept putting it off until the next time I had it in the shop... Well lesson learned, bite the bullet and get stuff fixed. Saving a couple hundred bucks is not worth having a really bad day...
