Just wondering what regulates fuel pressure on the PA28 series of aircraft, is is the fuel pumps themselves that put out a certain pressure? I can't see any sort of fuel pressure regulator in the diagrams I have.

My pressure always used to be right at 5 PSI, but something has changed over the past few months and I have had it in the shop three or four times now trying to sort it out. I get high pressure on the ground sometimes with just the mechanical fuel pump on and then during a climb I get low fuel pressure(even with electric pump on), much more prevalent on the left tank.

Anyway, its going back in again this week and the whole system has been checked already but I think i'm at the point where I am going to just replace the mechanical and electric pumps and see if that solves the issue. I have a 1600 mile trip I am taking in the few weeks over some pretty rough terrain so would like this to be in good shape.
