Seven months of crawling around this airplane and I had never seen this patch until yesterday. This is the bottom of the left flap about halfway down it's span.

I have not seen anything in the books about it either, but admit, I might have missed the entry. I will look in more depth this week to see what I can find. But, it looks nicely done and quite old. The airplane was last painted in 1988 and it looks like the same paint quality as the rest, making me think this has been there for a long time.

I know there is some ambiguity out there on patches on balanced surfaces. Is a flap considered a balanced surface? Would this be considered a legal patch or do I need to put some flap surgery on my to do list?
