F-111 Loses Nose Wheel on Takeoff

Saw this F-111 that lost its nose wheel on takeoff, interesting the landed it gear up and used an arrester cable at the end of the runway and the tail hook to bring it to a fast stop. I thought it would have been better to just gear up it and slide down the runway a little, as opposed to the gear hook grabbing the wire and the planes nose hit hard and thought that was more risky for breaking or rupturing the fuel tank behind the pilots seats.

Wondering what others thoughts are on this one, looks like the Brass on the ground were calling all the shots and not the pilot ?
