I'm curious about getting an electronic log to back up my standard pilot log book and was wondering what the opinions were on them.

I'm curious if it helps to categorize the flying times/type depending on the data input.

Are there apps/ e-logs that will calculate how much night / ifr / dual / solo etc... to help me figure out where I'm at going through PPL and eventually IFR instruction? I realize I can calculate this stuff manually but if I'm using an electronic version as a back-up anyway it sure would be handy.

I will be a recreational pilot only so nothing fancy needed.
