I have to take a Medical Flight Test because of a deficiency in my left eye. I can take this test at the same time as my practical (with the FAA Inspector at the FSDO) or take just the medical flight test with the Inspector and then take the Practical with a regular DPE back at my home airport.
The only advantages I can see to taking it with the inspector is that I would get it all done right away, thereby getting my license sooner, and I wouldn't have to pay $500.
The disadvantage is that I'd be taking the practical in an area that I'm unfamiliar with. (It would be in Sacramento, which I've only flown over twice during my cross-country flights. I am, however, familiar with the Sac area from the ground as I live only an hour away by car.)
Of course, I'd also have to get endorsed to fly solo to Sac, or pay my CFI to come sit on his but for a few hours.
Any thoughts?
