Does anybody have info on Garmin G5 vs. Dynon D3 as a (non-certified) backup?

I would like an emergency instrument backup device for my IFR flying in my PA28-180 along the lines of either the G5 or D3 but I don't know which one might be preferable. My intent is a non-permanent, non-certified instrument hole installation. Both of these are in the $1000 range with Dynon less and Garmin more than that. To me they look nearly identical in function so the Dynon looks like the better choice since I think it has its own battery which is a $150 option on the already higher priced Garmin. I have a GTX345 which has an AHRS backup but that's useless without power thus my interest in these devices.
