Hello all. I’m wondering how many of you PA32R PA28R and PA34 drivers/mechanics out there have run into a cracked NLG strut/Trunnion assembly. I found this on a landing gear rebuild that I am doing. I also discovered an unauthorized welding repair done back in 1990. According to Piper and AC43, no repairs are allowed to this component other than blending out small scratches and replacing bearings and such. I also found an old AMA that showed this same part had broken during a towing incident. The plane in question is a 78-8006 PA32R with 7400 TT.
Second question that I have is do any of you know where we could find a used replacement? I have tried EBay, barnstormers, sky wagon, Texas air salvage, controller. All see you not have them and if they do, they fly right off the shelf.
I’m wondering if Piper is aware of these being prone to cracking. There seems to be more and more of them.
See pictures for reference.
Thoughts?
