Considering purchasing a PA-28

Hi all,

I've been slowly working on my instrument ticket using my little Cessna 150 and occasionally renting a 172. The 150 is only equipped with a single VOR, so it's very limited in what approaches I can shoot. The 172s are all /G, so I'm getting my RNAV and ILS practice in.
I've been strongly considering purchasing a Cherokee 160, or maybe a 180 if within my budget ($35k...ish). Is that a realistic budget for a mid time engine, decently equipped PA-28? I'd like something with at least 2 VORs w/GS, maybe a wing leveler, possible DME if not able to find one with a decent GPS. Bonus points for an ADS-B equipped plane. I'm considering AA5s and Beech C23s, as well. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to sell my 2000 Cobra R to facilitate the purchase, but it comes down to what I enjoy more. And right now, instrument training has really captured my interest.
Thoughts?
