Background: After adjusting the squelch on my GMA 340 and SL-40 and testing the squelch on the KY 197 while on the ground, I got in the air and have an issue where when I transmit with my SL-40 it causes the VOR CDI needle to swing wildly? NAV is a Narco 122. Also, my KY 197 is more or less dead, although when I tune it to an ATIS I can receive faintly (adjusting volume doesn't work). Found this out when I was in a cruise with the autopilot on and the airplane suddenly wanted to make a maximum turn when I transmitted to ATC.

Any ideas or suggestions what may be the issue?
