I am struggling to conceptualize how to assemble the middle floor channel in my Cherokee. I've got the rest figured out, but not sure how to proceed here.
My carpet is from Airtex. The carpet consists of a foam layer as well, making the entire thickness of the carpet about 1/3 to 1/2 an inch. To get a nice finished look, I would need to tuck the carpet under the heater rails, but there simply isn't enough room to fit the carpet under. I could attempt to separate the foam from the carpet itself where it would go under, to make it thinner, but that doesn't seem right.
The flap/trim plastic cover seems to fit nicely flush up against the metal. Again, for a nice finished look, it seems I would need to tuck the carpet under that cover. However, due to the thickness, I would need longer screws and even then, I would worry about cracking since it would be sitting on the flexible base of the carpet rather and hard up against the metal.
I could possibly cut the carpet right along the front of the flap plastic cover, run bare metal underneath, then cut the carpet right at the rear. It would effectively give me two separate pieces of carpet on that channel and allow the plastic piece to screw up flush with the metal. But how would that look? Would it be rookie? The airtex kit piece, if you look at the picture, has finished edging on the forward piece, which makes me think it should not be tucked, but should just lay there.
