I have a digital EGT gauge on my 72' Cherokee 180. In cruise, I pull the mixture back (lean) to get around a 1200F EGT. This gives me around 9/gal per hour.

I know the proper leaning procedure is to lean until you detect a slightly rough engine and RPM drop and then richen about 50F. Watching this on a digital EGT is concerning because the EGT rapidly goes into the 1300F's.

The question is, what max EGT should I be concerned with on an A4M motor and what EGT do you guys generally see in cruise.

Thanks
