I am replacing all of the carpet in my 140 and after removing the rear seats and the carpet, I noticed that the wooden board that hinges up and down that forms the support for the seats is not to my standards. I want to replace it. I am no carpenter, though I could probably make it happen using the existing one as a template. Before I go down that road, does anyone know where I can buy a replacement? Perhaps even of a lighter material than wood?

If I stick with wood, what is the best type? Obviously, I want light, yet strong. Any FAA considerations I need to be thinking about? My A&P says that I don't have to do a new weight and balance after replacing that. Is this true?
