Welcome Back to Blackwater Airfield!
Please join in helping us celebrate the first anniversary of Blackwater Airfield 8FD3 being made accessible to the public by attending this weekend fly-in with underwing camping at the Airfield on April 12th-13th. As you may know, Blackwater River State Forest is a beautiful pine forest in the Florida Panhandle with one of the best turf airstrips in the Southeast. Morever, there are campground amenities (including hot/cold showers and restrooms), a spring-fed swimming lake, and a variety of hiking trails all adjacent to the south end of the Airfield itself.
Unlike the gala event that was generously hosted by Drew and Gary last year, this time we plan on it being a simple affair like any other backcountry gathering. So bring whatever you'll need to cook, eat and camp, and plan on enjoying one another's company. Hopefully, we'll all be able to meet Blackwater's new District Manager, Mike Hudson, and hear about some of the plans we have for improving the airfield. There will also be an opportunity to work on the airfield a bit, perhaps so much so that we'll even expand the event to include Friday as a work day. So do bookmark this event description so you can check back here to look for further updates.
The RAF has posted a Blackwater Safety Brief in the 'Pilot Info' section of our website, and that includes useful information on both the flying and camping aspects of visiting the Airfield. You'll find that here.
If you are tentatively planning to attend this event, please click on the 'Register' link below to help us anticipate the size of the group. Hope to see many of you there!
Jack Tyler, RAF Florida State Liaison
