Little problems quickly become HUGE problems - little did I know that a faulty fuel sending unit would ruin my whole day, month, or year!
Upon removing the fuel tank to get at the fuel sending unit I took the time to look around and inspect the fuel hoses and wing spar IAW Piper SB1006. I found what I didn't want to see - intergrannular corrosion of the main spar web "I-Beam".
The photo was taken with the aid of a mirror and is located directly in front of the main landing gear upper housing on the front side of the spar - an area that cannot be seen without first removing the fuel tank.
Needless to say, I am in the process of replacing the entire wing as it is much cheaper than replacing the $6800 I-Beam.
