I just received a quote from my avionics shop to replace my existing Collins AMR350 audio panel/SPA400 intercom with either a Garmin GMA350C or a PS Engineering PMA8000BT audio panel/intercom. Both of these system I understand will offer Blue Tooth connectivity. They say the installation itself will include all new wiring for the audio panel/intercom and new headset jacks at each of the 4 stations. This shop also installed my Garmin GTN 650, STEC 30 auto pilot, 406 ELT, GDL 88 ADSB and Garmin flightstream over the past few years so they know my plane well. The prices are below
Garmin GMA350C Audio Panel/Intercom$4,561.00
PS Engineering PMA8000BT Audio Panel/Intercom$4,273.00
I do not think the quote is out of line but thought they would recommend Garmin since all the other equipment in my plane is Garmin and am surprised they included the PS engineering option in the quote. The difference in price is not a concern for me. Is anyone here flying with the Garmin audio panel with a GTN 650 or the PS engineering panel with a GTN650. Just wondering if there is any value to staying with Garmin since all other equipment is Garmin.
I am leaning toward PS Engineering since the avionics shop believes that is a reliable unit that is not too difficult to use. Most posters in another forum prefer the PS. The shop cannot do the work until February so I have some time to decide. Anyone here have any experience with either. I know PS engineering just came out with a new model but I believe that would be more than I need. Thanks in advance for any help.
